Boycott of Israeli Products Considered Effective in Defeating Global Neocolonialism

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Expert from the Department of International Relations at Padjadjaran University (Unpad), Dina Sulaeman says that Israel is now the last bastion of global neocolonialism. To defeat it, he said, Indonesians need to intensify the boycott of products affiliated with Israel.

“What is the way to defeat the forces of global neocolonialism? Since their strength is in the economy, we can defeat them with economic movements as well, namely boycotts,” Dina said after being the FGD speaker at the Republika Office, South Jakarta, Tuesday (26/11/2024).

According to him, Israel is now the last bastion of global neocolonialism because Israel was founded by the imperialist powers of the world, such as Britain, France and also now supported by the United States. He also said that product boycotts were effective in defeating global colonialism.

“Can this work? It can work because in history we know how South Africa's Apartheid regime used to be helped and then set up a new democratic government that upheld the equal rights of blacks and whites through a global boycott,” Dina said.

“So our goal to boycott is to weaken the economic pillars that refute Israel,” he said.

If boycotts of Israeli-affiliated products were also implemented globally, according to him, the bulwark of neocolonialism would surely collapse. According to him, the boycott could be started by Indonesians.

“We start with ourselves in Indonesia. When it expands, God willing, it will become a snowball that will expand and eventually bring down the Zionist regime,” Dina explained.

Once the Israeli regime is destroyed, he added, a new democratic government could be established there that would uphold the rights of all people and all religions, and restore the rights of Palestinians who had been colonized for so long.
